Head of Renewable Energy Finance

Ed has over 20 years experience of arranging structured financings and leading teams in the global Energy, Transport & Infrastructure sectors. Over the last 4 years Ed has spearheaded the Bank's drive to finance the development of the European renewable energy sector which has seen him leading a team in the origination, structuring and execution of corporate and project financings. He has built a market leading franchise in the European Wind and Solar sectors. Key highlights have included being Lead MLA on the Babcock & Brown Wind Portfolio refinancing which won IJ Global Deal of the year in 2007, completing 5 MLA transactions in European based solar PV in 2008 and investing equity into the Hg Capital Renewable Power & Sigma Capital Funds. During 1999-2006, Ed established and led the Halifax and more latterly HBoS European Structured Asset Finance division. This initially involved establishing the global shipping and aviation tax based leasing portfolios and more latterly the development of the Banks asset finance footprint across Europe, including the creation of a European freight rail business. During 1995-1999 Ed worked for Lloyds TSB, also in the asset finance and leasing of global transportation and energy assets. Key highlights were undertaking the first project finance backed UK lease facility of a gas fired power station and acquiring a £2.2bn leasing portfolio from NatWest Markets. During 1988-1995, Ed started his career at Midland Bank in Asset and Project Finance. Key highlights were working on the early stage PFI deals, acquisition of the ROSCO Eversholt Leasing (renamed HSBC Rail) and managing a £1bn portfolio of Aircraft, Shipping and Property Assets. A Geography graduate from Oxford University, Ed studied climate change from a student’s perspective before entering the world of finance.
